The isle is full of noises for @prunebleue
She will never be a beauty, and she will never have what passes for charm these days, but Grandmother Rhaelle insists that Elenei will have a good life as Lady of Winterfell nonetheless.
Storm’s End has been hers since her parents died and Robert returned to the Eyrie, hers and Grandmother’s, but she doesn’t mind leaving it, since Brandon doesn’t mind her.

The rest had all been lies, though. He did remember what he did to her that night, she was convinced of that. She could see it in his eyes. He only pretended to forget; it was easier to do that than to face his shame. Deep down Robert Baratheon was a coward. In time the assaults grew less frequent. During the first year of their marriage he took her at least once a fortnight; by the end it was not even once a year. He never stopped completely, though. Sooner or later there would come a night when he would drink too much and want to claim his rights. What shamed him in the light of day gave him pleasure in the dark.
Queer ppl like folk music because the top 3 queer emotions are “the moon” “the ocean” and “loneliness”
I don’t fully understand this and yet it echoes like a gong.
Is there any merit to the theory that Dorne practices slavery with the other Kingdoms being none the wiser? Is Areo Hotah a slave?
??? This is the first I’ve even heard this “theory”, lmao. It sounds like bullshit to me to the point that I’m not sure it’s worth breaking this down at all.
But it is worth noting that when the Rhoynar fled Essos, it was to escape the Valyrians, who would have certainly enslaved them and subjugated them otherwise. As far as I can tell, slavery was not a construct that was practiced in Rhoynish society, so it would make no sense that they’d practice it upon coming to Dorne. And if they did, it would have surely been noted.
Fast forward to present day Dorne— there is still no evidence of slavery being practiced, in secret or otherwise. They are a society whose hallmarks include greater amounts of personal and societal freedoms. There has never been a hint of slavery being practiced.
For for Areo Hotah, he comes from Norvos, and his role in Mellario’s household had been that of a guardsman. He may have been a slave in Norvos, as he was sold to the bearded priests to conduct his training. While he may have been brought to Dorne while been considered a slave in Norvos, such bonds certainly ended upon arriving in Dorne. That is confirmed by the fact that he did not return with Mellario to Norvos, but instead remained in Dorne as Doran’s captain of the guard. A slave would have been obligated to return with the household they arrived with.
I can see how Areo’s service to House Martell may seem like a gray area if he was indeed a slave in Norvos. But to imply that there’s a whole secret web of slaves in Dorne is ridiculous.
I love Edward Elric because that horrible teenager spent like 3 months living and traveling with two men who saved his life, and in that time somehow utterly failed to learn either of their names.
